The Local Government Academy offers approximately 30 educational programs each year. These programs are typically offered at various on-site locations throughout Allegheny, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland counties. Except for conferences and roundtable discussions, the programs are taught in a classroom-style setting with instructors from government, education, civic and business sectors.

Contemplating Governing Course
Contemplating Governing is an independent nonpartisan course for potential candidates for local elected office, such and city and borough council, school board and township commissioner or supervisor. Newly Elected Officials Course
The Newly Elected Officials Course is offered every two years following the local elections in Pennsylvania. This Course is open to all winners of local elections in southwestern PA. The full-course Certificate Program includes 40 hours of instruction over 10 sessions, covering a variety of topics relevant to governing at the local level. The next Newly Elected Officials Course will begin in November 2011.
