Applications for the 2021 Municipal Intern Program are OPEN

The world is grappling with an unpredictable public health crisis, regional governments are still recovering from the wave of additional responsibilities brought on by managing lockdowns, restrictions, and increased heath oversight duties, and Local Government Academy is having an intern fair?

This year, for the first time ever, we are partnering with the Pittsburgh Government-2-University Initiative (G2U), to host an intern fair to kick off the 2021 Municipal Intern Program (MIP). We’ve held an in-person Municipal Intern Fair for decades at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, but this partnership is an opportunity to take what we do to the next level – and virtually. This year’s Municipal Intern Fair, the G2U PGH Spring 2021 Government Virtual Career + Internship Fair, is March 18th from 1 – 4 p.m., with each of our selected internship Placement Sites joining with other employers, such as the FBI and the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, to find the most promising and interested grads and undergrads.

The Fair is hosted on Handshake, a digital platform created to connect students with internships and jobs. To apply for the 2021 MIP, students must accomplish the following steps:

  • Step One: Fill out the form at the bottom of the MIP page. To access this page, click here.
  • Step Two: Register to attend the G2U PGH Spring 2021 Government Virtual Career + Internship Fair through Handshake.
  • Step Three: Attend the Virtual Fair on Thursday, March 18, from 1-4 p.m.

Grads and undergrads: Take advantage of this unique opportunity to find paid summer internships that will connect you with myriad networking possibilities. Have your questions prepared and make sure to iron your finest professional interview outfit for the upcoming Virtual Fair.

Local government never shuts down, and neither does Local Government Academy. The Municipal Intern Fair and MIP are proceeding as per usual this year, and we’re excited to see you at the Virtual Fair on March 18th!
