From the Executive Director: Local Government Academy’s Community Connection!

This February, the Local Government Academy is proud to highlight the community connections we foster year-round. Through our educational programs, including the ongoing Newly Elected Officials Course and the upcoming Municipal Intern Program, we continue to strengthen relationships among local leaders, students, and public servants. We are especially mindful of the Black community members whose contributions as participants, subject matter experts, mentors, and leaders help shape stronger and more inclusive local governance across our region.

Our Newly Elected Officials Course is well underway, beginning with a classroom session focused on the Powers and Duties of Elected Officials and followed by sessions exploring Municipal Finance and Ethics. In addition, our Wednesday Webinars on Financial Safeguards and DCED State Funding have drawn strong participation and engagement.

Looking ahead, the Municipal Intern Program Intern Fair will be held on February 18th at Carnegie Mellon University. This event allows prospective interns to connect directly with placement sites while exploring their own professional interests and expanding their understanding of municipal government.

Local Government Academy is also continuing our management of the PACOG webinar series, which provides meaningful opportunities for Councils of Governments to collaborate and learn from one another, strengthening cooperative approaches to shared municipal challenges.

Together, these initiatives connect newly elected officials, municipal managers, students, and regional partners as we continue promoting excellence in local government.
