SWPA Local Government Officials Training

The Local Government Academy and the Community Project HUB of Southwestern Pennsylvania are partnering to offer a free educational workshop series for local government officials in Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties.

In-person sessions will provide non-partisan, fact-based information for municipal leaders interested in good governance and seeking opportunities for project funding.

As a reminder, at least one representative from each municipality must attend all 4 sessions to be eligible for the funding and project development incentives.

Learn local government best practices, understand your
role and legal responsibilities, build relationships with your peers, and grow
your network of credentialed professionals.

Municipalities that participate in the training series will be eligible for:

  • No-cost technical assistance to develop municipal projects and funding applications
  • Eligibility to apply for cash match grant funding
  • Capacity-building support to address local challenges

Evening workshops are held from 5:00–8:00 p.m.

Tuesday, September 29

Powers & Duties of Municipal Officials

A two-part presentation on the roles and responsibilities of local government
officials. Learn about the requirements of public notice, executive sessions,
and effective meeting management.

Thursday, October 8

Municipal Finance & Budgeting

A presentation on financial best practices for municipalities, followed by
facilitated small-group discussions covering municipal budgets, audit
compliance, and revenue generation.

Tuesday, October 13

Land Use & Code Enforcement

A comprehensive discussion of land use practices and regulations, paired with
an interactive conversation about future land use goals and the infrastructure
needed to achieve your community’s vision.

Thursday, October 22

Pennsylvania State Ethics Act for Public Officials and Employees

The Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission will provide an overview of the Act,
discuss common pitfalls, and explain how public officials and employees can
comply with state regulations.
